Got To Get Out has a long history trekking in Nepal, in fact, this social enterprise was first founded in the Himalaya!
Back in 2014 group founder Robert Bruce trekked towards Mt Everest Base Camp (EBC) he had a strong realisation that his calling was to ‘get people outdoors’ to improve the mental and physical health of people in New Zealand.
Since then he’s been back three more times, taking Got To Get Out’ers with him each time on increasingly bigger expeditions.
Our first trip had 7 people to EBC, then 10 people to the Annapurna Circuit, and in 2019 GTGO hosted 30 people to Mt Everest Base Camp with a side-trip of Island Peak (6190m) added on
Trekking in the Himalayas is a ‘must do’ for Kiwis, we believe. It’s somewhat of a rite of passage to follow in the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and learn about the strong connection between NZ and Nepal. The fitness you gain from trekking to 5000m+ above sea level is awesome, and the camaraderie gained from spending three weeks with a friendly group, cannot be overestimated.
