Welcome to Got To Get Out.

We arrange a mixture of free and paid-for outdoor adventure tours, activities, and events, ranging from hiking, mountain biking, paddle-boarding, ski trips and climbing. We cater to beginners through to experienced hikers, providing ‘harder hikes’ that may be multi-day and involve camping or hut stays in forest parks or mountains.

About us

Got To Get Out is a social enterprise adventure group on a mission to get our community active, outdoors, connected and healthy by organising outdoor activities in New Zealand.

Got To Get Out was founded by a New Zealander of the Year semi-finalist and “Local Hero” recipient Robert Bruce. Robert was once the managing director of a marketing company, but upon being made redundant from new owners, he decided to change his life and change others’ too.

Since 2015, we’ve organised hundreds of free or cheap outdoor trips, hosted mostly at our Facebook page.

Please make yourself at home on our site. If you want to know more about our upcoming events, view our Adventures page or read our Frequently Asked Questions!

Have a good look around and get in touch, especially if you’ve #gottogetout!

Our Advantages

Hours of Experience

Robert leads most hikes and bike rides personally and has thousands of hours of guiding time under his belt, as well as being one of the qualified bus drivers on the staff. As well as Rob, there are a number of highly skilled and passionate staff and volunteers who each love getting Kiwis outdoors to improve their health and mental wellness.

Safe & Accredited

Got To Get Out has the correct training, safety audit, and concessions to be legally able to provide outdoor recreation services so guests can feel safe and cared for when on adventures.
For more information, please read our Health & Safety page.

Easy & Organised

We make it easy for people to join a Got To Get Out trip, taking away the administration and hassle by doing the planning work and providing the equipment.

Inclusive & Community-Oriented

Many people who are new to their respective towns come on our trips to make local friends so coming on a Got To Get Out trip brings people from different walks of life together.

Welcoming & Friendly

Whether you’re a beginner or an expert hiker, you’ll find a home with us. Our guided tours and activities cater for all ages, and all experience levels.

Services

Customised Trips

We also arrange custom/group trips, for sponsors, brands, offices, or students. One series is called Get Into Nature, which gets international students (mostly studying in Auckland) outside, active, and learning. Organise a custom trip, activity, or event with us today!

Hike One, Give One

In 2020, we began a socially-good program called “hike one give one” (or “ride one give one”, “ski one give one” depending on the paid trip we are offering). For each paid trip we deliver, we give away a ticket to someone in need. So far, we’ve taken a number of rangatahi (youth) from South Auckland on free day hikes and learn to MTB sessions, which has been a life changer for these youngsters. We are constantly on the lookout for youth groups wishing to benefit from free trips, to please get in touch if you know of someone who has ‘#gottogetout’
